Good Cop

Arizona tourist captures photo of NYPD officer buying boots for cold homeless man

Facebook
FacebookNYPD officer Lawrence Deprimo gives a homeless man a pair of all-weather boots. The photo of the kind gesture, captured by a woman visiting from Arizona, has gone viral.
A secretly snapped photo of a kind gesture between a New York Police Department officer and a homeless man in Times Square has become an Internet sensation.
While on vacation in New York City from her home in Florence, Arizona, Jennifer Foster visited Times Square with her husband in November, according to the New York Times.
It was there she witnessed officer Lawrence DePrimo approach a man with no shoes or socks sitting on the sidewalk. Deprimo had purchased boots at a nearby store and came back to offer them to the homeless man. Foster took a photo of the exchange and later sent it to the police department to praise the officer.
“The officer expected NOTHING in return and did not know I was watching,” Foster wrote in the email. “I have been in law enforcement for 17 years. I was never so impressed in my life.”
The police department posted the photo to their Facebook page, where it was swiftly liked by more than 330,000 people and shared more than 84,000 times. It was also shared on Reddit.
The officer initially remained anonymous and didn’t even know the photo had been posted. Eventually, DePrimo, 25, told the New York Times what led to his decision to purchase the shoes.
““It was freezing out and you could see the blisters on the man’s feet,” he told the newspaper. “I had two pairs of socks and I was still cold.”
After chatting with the man, DePrimo found out he wore a size 12 shoe. He went to a nearby Skechers store to purchase a pair of all-weather boots. An employee of the store, upon realizing what DePrimo was doing, gave him an employee discount, bringing down the price to $75 from the original $100.
Foster said the gesture was an important reminder of why people go into law enforcement in the first place.
“It is important, I think, for all of us to remember the real reason we are in this line of work,” she said.

How the Mighty Have fallen

Market Up Until August 2013 Despite Bad News Bears?
Rich Cash

“A gazelle lies slain on your heights, Israel.
    How the mighty have fallen!”

2 Samuel 1: 19

The rest of the story is that King Saul, once annointed by God to rule, having become arbitrary and despotic, was mortally wounded with his son Jonathan in a key battle between the Israelites and the tall ancient Canaanites called the Amalekites.

Saul asked a young Amalekite on the battlefield to slay him to put him out of his misery.

The Amalekite did.

He brought Saul's crown and armband to David, also annointed, though long opposed by Saul.

David had the Amelekite slain as the enemy, suggesting we cannot interfere with Divine Wind.

We face a similar situation in markets today.

Despite profound fundamental rot in institutions once protecting free markets, peace and prosperity, while leaders stuff their pockets with bailouts, injustices and red tape written and enforced to their advantage, we cannot interfere with God’s will.

An abundance of caution with outright bearishness suggests the imminent repeat of the 2008 market crash, with a 90% drop this time like the depoayed second leg of the 1929 Crash ushering in the Great Depression.

We forsaw 2008 in our 2007 The Gift, circulated privately to clients at a highly unpopular time to be selling.

We may in fact be closer to an equity market bottom than the midpoint of another market crash.

It appears bonds may have peaked, if not cash.

As always, most buy at tops and sell at bottoms.

We see highly publicized reports of bearish bullionaires buying bonds, hedging gold, selling stocks and expecting the end of the financial world.

As usual, a few with the courage to take the scarce other side of the trade may profit mightily.

Most may quickly sell what they perceive as a bear market rally.

They also did this in November 2008 and March 2009, when our family, friends and those subscribers on our list bought values with extreme fear and SPX 741 and 666.79 respectively.

Powerful profits are a no respecter of person.

Our anticipation is equity markets may continue to climb this wall of worry, skepticism, doubt disbelief begun in March 2009, at least until August 2013, while catatonic cassandras caterwaul like so many cats in desperate heat.

Jesse Livermore, who was accused of promoting the President in 1924 and banned from WSJ because he was bullish when most were bears:

"Men who can both be right and sit tight are uncommon.”

PS: Hat Tip Kim and Tuck:

An Eastern Oregon rancher got an unusual battle on camera between a bear
And some very brave cows. The bear began to attack a cow and then the entire
Herd came to its aid. One cow in particular got especially aggressive and head
-butted the bear right off its feet. Then, two cows sandwiched the bear
Between their heads. After that, the bear decided to flee and limped back into
The woods.
Read on...A couple of evenings ago, went out to check the cows and saw a very strange sight
And was able to photograph the event. A black bear approached our cow herd
Which turned out to be a very big mistake on his part.
The blonde and white Simmental cow we know as I-12 went right for him. She
Is a very good cow, a very attentive mother and about 12 years old. She's in
Her prime and knows that bears are bad news.

Little does the bear know what is coming

She tried her best to mash him into the ground. Man, that has to have hurt the
Bear!

Nothing like a mad cow to give you a hard time

There are a couple of photos where the bear is biting I-12's leg and clawing her
Face, but she is not giving up. Her stiff tail shows how agitated she is. Wayne
Said all the cows were bawling, the bear Was squealing, the calves were
Running around with their tails in the air.

And here comes some help
bear is about to know what real trouble is!

When you have two women
angry at youreal trouble has arrived!

A younger cow, R-55, an Angus-Cross cow, age 7, is helping her out as best
She can. It is an incredible photo to see two cows at once trying to crush the
Bear. Watch that hoof land home!

I looked up the calving records of both cows who are so aggressive in these
Photos and they are both good, calm, cows around us, and have given us no
Troubles whatsoever. I'll have to add in my notes that they have a very distinct
Dislike of bears. Man, thats a lot of weight bearing (no pun intended), down
On the bearlike mashing a lump of butter! A wonder the bear could even
Move after all the mauling he received.

We'll be watching I-12 over the next few days to see if she needs Treatment for
Infection. I don't know how willingly she'll come to the corrals for treatment,
But she might not have a choice. And stay awayyou wont be so lucky next
Time!

Lucky to be able to move at all

Finally, the bear decided to vacate the area. We thought he'd be dead for sure,
But there was no sign of him the next day.

We'll have to keep an eye out for eagles in the trees or flocks of ravens flying
Up. We're sure he's got some broken ribs out of the deal at the very least.
Wayne couldn't believe his eyes when he witnessed this ruckus. This is
Another once-in-a-lifetime photography event to add to all the others he
Managed to document this summer. It is amazing.
